Over the years that I have been resident in Helsinki,Finland as a British Expatriate,I have traveled to and from the country in many ways. Here are my tips for some of the most scenic travel entry routes in to Finland
By plane to Helsinki Vantaa airport
These reason I chose this as one of my favorite means of entering Finland,is the spectacular views of the country it offers.Make sure to get a window seat on your flight.I promise, weather being the only factor that limits this way to enter Finland(Suomi).Flying in summertime is the best choice for flying. The views you get from the aircraft are truly spectacular. You will be able to see clearly all the many lakes in Finland(Suomi) and also get to see the Finnish Archipelago between Ahvenanmaa and Turku on the west coast of Finland. This is why they say”Finland Land of a Thousand Lakes and The All-Night Sun”.Helsinki is not really in the class of Heathrow,J.F Kennedy or Frankfurt airports,so passing through customs is a quick and painless affair.A wonderful way to travel as well.
Traveling by ship from Stockholm to Helsinki
This another firm favorite. The Silja ferry service departs every day at 10.00 in the morning hiving you some nice views of Stockholm on departure. Then you take a leisurely cruise and travel with well designed and comfortable cabins. This is the way I entered Finland 21 years ago to settle down and take up residence as a British Expatriate in Helsinki Finland.I highly recommend this way of entering Finland(Suomi).whilst on board these fabulous ships, your every need and want is catered for. There are countless restaurants, nightclubs, children’s play rooms, movie theatres and just about anything else you could possibly imagine. The actual ship itself is up to standards with a 5 star hotel. What you can expect to find on board:
Take the Promenade to Stockholm
On Silja Serenade the city holiday begins the minute you step on board. Walk along the Promenade, the heart of the ship, and experience the atmosphere of a central European pedestrian street: you can pop into shops, enjoy delicious tapas, take a minute to watch the entertainment and then retire to a wine bar for a drink.
Gourmet delights from master chefs
Silja Serenade’s restaurants serve delicious dishes to suit all tastes. Try the skilful creations that delight all senses served at Bon Vivant. The famous seafood platter of the Happy Lobster fish restaurant or the ’Captain’s Sword’ skewer in El Capitan also melt in the mouth. The extensive menu of Bistro Maxime includes both traditional and trendier dishes. And how about sampling the selection in the Silja Buffet in a different way: fill your plate with beautiful arrangements of roe, shrimps, traditional island dishes or tapas. Wine, including in the price is served to you at the table. Worth trying! For a snack try the new Mundo quick and easy restaurant on the promenade. Following the self service concept there are three different menus; for breakfast, lunch and night snacks. A wide selection of tasty dishes, in smaller and bigger sizes, are served to the table during the evening.
Splendid shopping arcade
Silja Serenade’s Promenade is a paradise for shoppers. The shops tempt both women and men with the latest fragrances, skin care products, CDs, designer clothes – and plenty of other things. Remember that our prices are lower than prices ashore – the more you buy, the more you save! There are more shops available on deck 6 below the Promenade: the Tax-Free Market offers a large selection of beverages and sweets, for example. You can find both novel products and more traditional souvenirs in this shop. Our newest shop is called Trend Shop. The shop with its shoes, scarves and bags is a paradise for women in particular.

Wellbeing center

Book your beauty care appointments straight away on boarding as many travelers use the service on the Silja Cruises
Whilst traveling on board a ship does not offer the aerial views of flying it does however offer some fabulous sights of the Finnish coastline and surrounding islands of the Finnish Archipelago. A slower but none the less spectacular way to travel to Helsinki Finland
Train from Moscow to Helsinki
This is a train trip,Helsinki-Moscow to take just to be able to say you have been there and done it,I under took this trip,Traveling to the old Soviet Union in 1989.The train itself offers you a cabin, shower band breakfast delivered to you in the morning before arrival. The journey takes some 13 hours, enabling you the passenger to watch the passing scenery.Admittedly much of the scenery consists of deep forest but there are some fascinating sights to be seen.Like the people of Russia out fishing on the ice early on a winters morning. You do require all valid entry permits to travel on this trip.Your local Russian Embassy can advise you further.Still it is a one off experience and I aim to do it again
So there you can see three ways of traveling to Helsinki Finland in style. Two of the ways you get to see the Finnish Archipelago the other you get ton see the vast amount of forest in Finland.I feel privileged as a British Expatriate in Helsinki Finland as it affords me the opportunity to travel on these above mentioned routes frequently
