I received a phone call last week from a psychologist asking if I would be prepared to go on another course at Iiris;The visually impaired center in Helsinki.As some may know I was there for two weeks some 5 months ago.I have had many follow up consultations,a huge amount of visual aids dispensed to me and software added to my trusty desktop,enabling it to talk,read my emails and countless other functions I have yet to master the all the functionalities of the software.I am learning fast though.Strange thing is though;The dictator can be chosen to be male/female,with most languages catered for.I chose the English woman.She speaks clearly but I picked up her dialect.She’s a Scouser from Liverpool.I receive about 300 emails every day and its not only a pleasure to listen to her read my mail,it is quicker ,house bound or not

A psycho-Social view of the world
The course is entitled,”Psycho Social Understanding”.The first course was to prepare me for the inevitable result of being diagnosed blind or visually impaired.After talking with the Psychologist the aim of this course is to enable me to better understand how I am perceived and how I can cope being in public places.It made sense to me,as I have only been out doors a handful of times since October.It is not from fear.more from the defeatist attitude that it takes me so long to get from one place to the next. The large amount of snow we have had in Finland this Winter was not the most inspiring and welcoming environment to trapes around in.So as a result I feel that by my choice only,I have been house bound.

This house bound thing has got so far that I am going to miss a meeting tonight.I planned to meet up with new faces from InterNations.Tonight is their once monthly get together and I was intent on turning up for this meeting,if only to hand out some business cards and so promoting my Blog.Alas!is a long journey to the center of Helsinki.by bus and metro,then a long walk through the busy city center of Helsinki.I can picture myself treading through the snow,white cane in hand,yellow sunglasses and a couple of police hounding me thinking I am drunk.This would all before a two hour meeting and then do the reverse coming home.No I think i`ll wait a few months for spring to dawn.Besides Finland Vappu is is only 5 weeks away.
Should I get on this course it will commence in May and I shall be absent for two more weeks.I shall not miss Helsinki Vappu due to being visually impaired.It is strange but my dog,a Lapland like sheep dog seems to keep a watchful eye on me,always plodding a few steps ahead and watching back at me with keen,attentive eyes and ears.Oh the joys of Multiple Sclerosis,Iiris .being House Bound snow
