in Finnish History,welcome

As I am living in Finland,it would not do me or them justice if I were not to mention a product and company that is known throughout the world. This being Telecommunications  giant, Nokia Mobile Phones. This post is written to give  you a brief history of Nokia and an introduction to the companies beginnings and huge growth. The mobile phones they produce and market so well, are regarded as using cutting edge technology and the preferred choice by mobile phone customers through out the World.

Humble beginnings

The company originated from a small town in Southwestern,Finland and began from a small paper mill on the banks of the Nokianvirta river, set up by Fredrik Idestam in 1865.Then in 1898 the saw mill was purchased by The Finnish Rubber Works establised by Eduard Polön.This company later bacame Nokia`s sister company. Then a further few years passed until,1912.The Finnish cable works was being built by Arvid Wicksröm at about this time. This was to be the beginnings of  of Nokia`s venture in to cable and Electronics.

The companies, which had been jointly owned since 1922, officially merged in 1967. At the time, Nokia Ab was the smallest of the three.

The new Nokia Corporation had five businesses:

  • rubber
  • cable
  • forestry
  • electronics
  • power generation

Each business had its own director who reported to the first Nokia Corporation President, Björn Westerlund. As the president and CEO of Finnish Cable Works, he had been responsible for setting up the company’s first electronics department, sowing the seeds of Nokia’s future in telecommunications.

Discovering Mobile Technology

It was in 1968 that The Nokia Corporation started in the Mobile Phone buisiness. They today are referred to as pioneers in the field of mobile telecommunications.Within a few years, following deregulation of European mobile networks,Nokia were  quick to launch new products on to the Global markets.

Through 1960-1990 the Nokia Corporation released the Initial Digital Switch. This time marks a period of significant progress for Nokia as The International Cell Phone Network was being designed and constructed.Much of Nokia`s equipment went into the first GSM call ever made.It appeared that Nokia could not go faster than it did through the Mobile  Technology Revolution of 1990-1999.The company released it`s first mobile phone, the 1011.A couple of years later the first  satellite phone call was made utilising and using a Nokia Mobile Phone.Nokia began intrducing games as part of their mobile platform.Shortly after with the release of the Nokia 7110,the Worlds initial cellular WAP phone.

With the dawn of a new century,Nokia continues research and development. They are the undisputed leaders in the newer Third Generation mobile handsets. The company continues to introduce new technologies to its range of phones and above all they have built a lasting image of reliability with the use of cutting edge technology and a reutation of a well made product

I thought that a look min to The Future of Nokia Phone Technology may be of minterest to some reades. So here is a Video that shows some of the concepts Nokia are looking in to,Enjoy!
