This Helsinki blog content and myself are a work in progress.My views on things and the subjects that this Blog covers,will no-doubt change as I gain a deeper understanding of Finland and the Finnish People.What I am sharing on these pages are personal views and points that I have observed so far,from becoming a British Expatriate and settling down here in Helsinki Finland.I hope you can have some use for it too.

Well,my name is Gregory Barr and I am a 45-year-old man born in Birmingham,England.I was fortunate enough to be born in to a Royal Naval family.This in turn offered me the opportunity to enroll at The Royal Hospital School,Holbrook,UK.This is a public boarding school,of which I attended 5 years.This was to set the stage for my travelling for the next 10 years.In 1988 I met a Finnish woman in London,and with in 4 months we married and I moved abroad to Helsinki,Finland.
I devour good literature,listen to others point of view and enjoy meeting people with differing cultures,religions views and open-mindedness

I am not an expert,but a British Expatriate and I am merely a man who has chosen his own path.For me it has worked out.The things I write on this Helsinki blog may not please every one.However they have given me much enjoyment and have had a positive effect on my life.In Hindsight,I have achieved more when my back is against the wall.

Why Finland? Why not Sweden instead? I like Scandinavia in summer but in winter I would prefer something hot like Italy or Spain. We have a team of expats here in the office and they all left their country for a reason. But to find your place in the world means visiting a lot if countries. Some find their new place soon some others are like busy ants. I have been to Sweden recently I might want to visit Finland next time though.
