As I have posted previously,The Finnish Sauna is to every Finnish person, worthy of the name being a Finn,is one of the most sacred and treasured activities in their daily life’s.It even ranks above Ice-Hockey,Rally and all motorsports and even the church.no blasphemy intended.
One might easily believe that actually winning a sauna competition is of little importance and trivial, but as Santa Claus is to children, sauna is to Finns.
On the 8th November 2009 The Guinness World Record title for “The most nationalities in a sauna room”suitably returned to Finland. From views I am getting, this homecoming is set to be a historic and national landmark. The record was achieved in the largest genuine sauna in the world in one of the oldest and largest sea fortresses in the world, that of Suomenlinna island, which belongs to the Finnish Navy.As a side point, Suomenlinna island is one of the sights I recommend that visitors to Helsinki,Finland visit,It is easily accessible by a short ferry ride from the market square at the bottom end of Esplanade. You can easily expect to spend a day on the island, where there are restaurants, museums and many other attractions.Even an old submarine!
The actual sauna record attempt
The idea germinated in the minds of the students from The Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences, in Helsinki,Finland. The institution actually has over 100 full time students from over 100 countries currently registered. This was an ideal time and great opportunity to attempt breaking The Guinness World Record
To achieve the new world record, the university combined together a team of students and staff. They also recruited a number of High-profile sponsors,no doubt for beer and other sundries. Through out the exercise, two goals were set in place.1)To have fun and enjoy the comradeship,2) to motivate the 100 nationalities to join in and restore Finland’s pride.
After an eventful day The Guinness world Record for the largest amount of differing nationalities in a sauna together was bought back to Finland, which I believe is its rightful place

According to that a sauna (pronounced /?s??n?/, or as Finnish [?s?un?]) is a small room or house designed as a place to experience dry or wet heat sessions, or an establishment with one or more of these and auxiliary facilities. These facilities derive from the Finnish sauna. The word “sauna” is also used figuratively to describe an unusually hot or humid environment.
A sauna session can be a social affair in which the participants disrobe and sit or recline in temperatures of over 80 °C (176 °F). This induces relaxation and promotes sweating.
Saunas can be divided into two basic styles: Conventional saunas that warm the air or infrared saunas that warm objects. Infrared saunas may use various materials in their heating area such as charcoal, active carbon fibers, and other materials.
