Welcome To Finnish Coffee

As a British man I was bought up the old English way:Egg & Bacon for Breakfast all washed down with a nice cup of real tea leaf tea made in a teapot and left to infuse for 10 minutes.Whilst living in England coffee was a beverage that came in granules, like Nescafe

That was to change upon arrival in Helsinki Finland! To this day tea is not drunk as a refreshment throughout the day and many Finnish People prefer to start the day with turning on the coffee maker and sitting down to a decent cup of fresh coffee.Even when visiting bars in the mornings you will see that many take a cup of fresh coffee before turning to their preferred Finnish Beer.

So where are the nice places to savor fresh coffee when arriving in Helsinki Finland?Travelers now a days may find it a little difficult to find good Helsinki Cafes as most have been incorporated in to restaurants or shopping chains. They all appear to be clones offering their Lattes,Cafe Au Lait served with the same biscuits, cakes or sandwiches.Their are however some rather splendid coffee house worthy of a visit.

Helsinki Coffee Houses

Cafe Ursula Coffee House

Cafe Ursula

Cafe Ursula

My personal favorite is Cafe Ursula as I see it as one of Helsinki`s most beautifully placed cafe`s.Cafe Ursula is placed on the edge of Kaivopuisto, one of the most famous and beautiful parks in Southern Helsinki.Cafe Ursula is placed on the Eastern side of the park. After ordering your coffee, cake and or lunch you can venture out on to the terrace. This is where Cafe Ursula comes into its own.Once outside, the fresh sea air roaming in off the Baltic sea can  be both refreshing and invigorating. The views are fantastic and as the cafe is situated in one of the most expensive areas to purchase property;due to it being located in the main Embassy area. The clients are well mannered and the whole ambience is both peaceful and unobtrusive.Cafe Ursula also offers a decent lunch selection.

Karl Fazer Coffee House

Karl Fazer Cafe is situated at Kluuvikatu 3 and is well known as a Finnish Classic due to the famous chocolate factory and bakery. This coffee house is one of the largest in Helsinki. The coffee house is only a few meters away from Esplanade in the very center of Helsinki.Karl Fazer Coffee House offers an extremely good selection of top quality coffees and Teas. These beverages can be accompanied with Karl Fazer`s very own made Ice-Cream,savory snacks, cakes and of course Fazer Chocolate

Cafe Ekberg Coffee House

Cafe Ekberg which is found at Bulevardi 9 is again a coffee house with years of reputation as it was established in 1852.When I first visited I could have fallen to the belief that I had entered some sort of time warp. The cafe is very popular with old ladies and is known for it.The coffee is good and if you do not mind feeling as if you were at a woman’s  church meeting then this is definitely a Helsinki Cafe House to put your head in to.Cafe Ekberg also serves a lunch and a buffet breakfast for those up early in the day.Should you be searching for gourmet food, there is a small store inside that may wet your taste buds and all to easily empty your pocket

Here I have shown some of the coffee houses frequented by myself. You can be guaranteed good coffee in Finland where ever you decide to stop in.As a British Expatriate and former tea drinker,I could not now imagine starting the day with out a good mug of fresh coffee and a croissant or grave sandwich

Hello Gregory,

I’ve just found your website and I find it charming because you speak so directly from your heart.

I’ve never been to Finland, maybe one day, and then I’ll take some of your advice.

All the best,

Jill

This can be a great blog on tons of nice information. I’ve been thinking so much about saunas and the benefits of using them. I have completed some research, and there are quite a lot of nice kits that may make it inexpensive on anyone’s budget. I am going to purchase one for my home. Thanks…
