Old Habit from Finland,Give From Finland With Love
One of the nice customs my Finnish Wife taught me early on in our relationship,was giving a small reminder,by way of a gift,from Finland with love she told me.One could look at it as advertising Finland and their hospitality.Where ever we travel in the world,Tuija will add to her suitcases;Postcards,key rings or some sort of item showing Finland ,its nature or people.
So,what did I get Given From Finland With Love
Well as can be read in my earlier posts.Myself and Tuija met in London,just off Leicester Square.We spent the day sightseeing ad eating in Chinese Restaurants,as at that time 1988,there were only a few in Helsinki itself.After drinking copious amounts of alcohol,we returned to Tuija`s Hotel.It was there she gave me a gift.A bottle of Finlandia Vodka.I must say it was very nice with fresh orange,I believe Finlandia Vodka to be The Worlds best Vodka;It even appears in the film American Gigolo.I know some people will say;Alcohol!”What sort of Gift is that”.It was given in the right place and at the right time.Hell,we got married 3 months later,became an Expatriate and now I have settled down in Helsinki/Lappeenranta,Finland.I call that from Finland with love
A go with the wind, attitude Till Finland With Love Struck
Since my early teens,I have pretty much run my life on one big belief.If the wind is blowing, follow it.This has not always turned out to be for the best,as my trip to Vantaa showsI and a few friends,have gotten a Taxi from Helsinki too Rovaniemi.Just for the fun and to see the city.We actually only stayed there for 5 hours and returned by train(Total distance:2000Km)and alot of Finnish Markka:The old Finland currency before they joined the EU.I guess I just enjoy travelling and meeting different peoples.A wonderful way to share Finland with love
Finland is in a very convenient place,Geographically for travelling I mean.There are cruise ships from Helsinki to Stockholm,Helsinki to Tallinn(Estonia) and even Helsinki.Travemunde.The last,I have yet to travel on.Nowadays I am forced by illness to slow down.Occasionally however, I will let the wanderer inside of me loose.Travelling and meeting others on the road,has given me,much more than I could ever lose.
So now I am sort of on a break;recuperating if you like.What goes around will come around.Apart from all the experiences I have and will cherish,the memories of people,some lost,some gone,will accompany me were ever I go.That is fond memories of Finland with love
I have adopted something from my Loving Finnish wife though.That is, I always have a gift to give to someone,with a Token card saying” From Finland with Love”
