I always new that myself and family would not settle down in the UK and find another country to emigrate to.Strange things happen.I have now lived abroad for some 22 years here in Helsinki Finland and Lappeenranta on the Eastern Border of Finland with Russia and I get news that my family is moving closer to me
Families Emigrate
My father was the first to make the wise decision toEmigrateto Sweden some 10 years ago, even though his permanent residence is in Spain. The home being at a 5000 meter altitude they decided on getting a country cottage in Sweden. As they love the Swedish people and natural surroundings so much, they later decided to purchase a larger place in the beautiful town of Ludvika[mappress]
Low and behold my sister was fairly quick to follow suite, this year permanently emigrating to Ludvika and uprooting from the UK.As an accountant she can do all her work on her computer and so be self supporting. She sold her property in the UK and her and her daughter moved successfully to Ludvika a few months ago.The schooling will almost defiantly benefit her daughter, not to mention Jasmine(her daughter)will learn another language at such an early age.Becomming bi-lingual at such an early age is one of the positive reasons to emigrate
Speaking to my family earlier today,it seems that my younger two brothers, one of which lives in New York the other in the UK have similarly requested that my father keeps his eye open for property for sale in the Ludvika area.Maybe they to will emigrate
As a British Expatriatemyself and the horrid thoughts of returning to the UK,I can fully understand why my family have chosen Sweden to emigrate to.The crime rates alone are substantially lower, the standard of life is more simple and relaxed, local people are far more friendly and willing to help their neighbours. As previously mentioned, moving abroad involves some planning but done with thought it can turn out to be of great benefit.
Emigrate,A family of British Expatriates
Whilst I made my home based in Finland,it dawned on me that my whole family are emigrating to what I say is a far more relaxed way of life.Unlike the UK where you feel constantly rushed and threatened, the transport and schooling systems fail to live up to a barely standard level of competence and the surrounding nature has all but disappeared due to the high demand for housing.
I personally have not yet visited Ludvika, however by all accounts it lies in pleasant unspoilt surroundings,an ideal place to emigrate to.Though across the Baltic Sea from Finland it serves as a great anchor point for my family and though it may have taken several years, the Barr family are truly British Expatriates living abroad and leading a healthier lifestyle in Scandinavia
Will I Emigrate back to Uk?
At the time 22 years ago,the actual process to emigrate filled my imagination with wonder and excitement.Sure;I gave up a lot of friends, but on the bright side I made many7 new friends.Truthfully,it took some years to settle down in Finland, but would I emigrate back to the UK,I don`t believe so!Emigrate twice in a lifetime is to much as of now

Hi I love this comment and it was so good and I am gonna save it. I Have to say the Superb analysis this article has is greatly remarkable. No one goes that extra mile these days? Bravo :) Just another tip you caninstall a Translator for your Worldwide Audience .
Thanks for your comment.Unfortunately installing a translation script or software slows the site down as it pulls a lot of resources from the host cpu. This in turn causes you the reader to experience slow delivery speed when you click on a link to navigate to another page. Thanks for the tip though and am aware of it

How cold does it get in the winter. I’m used to warmer climates. I’ve been to all the Scandinavian countries in the summer. I liked how it stays light til like midnight. I’ve been to the arctic circle and it never got dark. I thought that was interesting and cool. When I lived in Germany, it got dark like around 10:30 pm or 11pm. It got dark earlier in the winter, like around 4:30pm. Northern Germany, it got dark like around 3pm. I thought the weather in Germany was cold and damp in the winter. Being from Arizona, I’m used to a warm and dry climate. That’s the one problem I have about leaving, changing from one extreme weather condition to another as an adult. Younger kids can adapt quicker than adults can. I feel like I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Hi LauraB
It gets pretty cold, down as low as -25 degees C.
It is great in the cold if your wearing proper clothing and it is true, the summers are long and hot.
Yuo get used to and adapt to a new weather condition quite easily. The quality of life here in Finland is un paralelled,so it is worth it for that alone
Best Regards Greg
You may call me Laura. I don’t like being an American and what it represents. Most people in America are very superficial, and self centered. I’ve lived in Germany for a year, and after coming back to America, I felt like I’ve changed. Nothing’s been the same since. I love the Scandinavians better than the Germans. I wouldn’t have any problems communicating with the people. I’ve met a lot of nice strangers in Sweden, and Finland. They’re very helpful to strangers. Unlike Americans. Most Americans look at you funny if you say hello to them. If I were to emigrate, would I need a sponsor, visa, Swedish version of a green card? How long would a person have to live in Sweden before he/she can become a citizen? Can a legal non Swedish citizen get health benefits in Sweden, or do you have to be a Swedish citizen to get health benefits? Health insurance rates in this country are insane. The health industry in America only benefits people who have tons of money.
Hi Laura,
I fully understand your predicament.I would feel much the same idf I had to return to the UK
The best and only really fair answer I can suggest to you re-emigrating to Sweden,Finland,Denmark, etc, etc, etc is to firstly contact the United States Embassey Helsinki Finland.
They will be in a far betyter sitution to assist you and give advice
Remember I got in to Finland only through marrying a Finnish Lady. There are freinds of mine who got into FAinland for work as they were offered employment
Im am sorry to say that I am no Emigration expert,so the USA eMBASSEY SEEMS YOUR FIRST PORT OF CALL AND MAKE ENQUIRIESBest Regards
and good luck

I’m a u.s citizen, and I’d like to emigrate to Sweden. I don’t like the way of life in the u.s. I also don’t like the politics here either. America is being overrun by corporations hence the name corporate America. The politicians in the u.s don’t serve the American people, they serve the special interest groups and the lobbyists. I’d like to live in a country where people are friendly, and where they care about the environment. I’d also like to live in a country where the government cares for its citzens. I’ve been to Sweden before, and I loved it. Being a u.s citizen isn’t what it’s cracked up to be. By the way I also loved Finland. People there are nice too. Although the language looks very hard to learn. How did you learn Finish? Swedish looks hard too. I do know German and some Spanish. I met a lot of finish and Swedish people who spoke English. Although I love learning new languages. I think I’m too old to learn something difficult. I think to learn to speak Finish, you’d have to be born in that country.
Hi Laura if I can call you that,
Moving to Sweden is a ver y good choice,I mhave lived in Finland for 22 years and still speak poorish Finnish, but the Finns all speak many languages; It is a big part of their school ciriculum. My Father and new wife, sister, brothers are all emigrated to LAudvika in Sweden. The Swe des are freindly, plite, and help with a strong communal spirit. You will find that many Finnish People aged over 50 learnt German at school so it is a popular language her e in Finland
I lived in several are as in the states and no offence to you or individual A mericans,i DID NOT LIKE THE LIFESTYLE BASED AROUND POSESIONS AND SHOWING OFF YOUR SUCCESS.
Maybe you should inquire at the Swedish Embassey and find out about any restrictions.Though I dont believe there will be many as Sweden is a very free and open society to live in
I wish you all the best with your endevours and hope you keep this blog informed of your decision and outcome
found your site on del.icio.us today and really liked it.. i bookmarked it and will be back to check it out some more later
Your very welcome and thanks for stopping by!
