The Diary of a British Expatriate in Finland Blog is primarily focused on my observations and life-changing experiences of a country I first settled in,1988 Finland.I have been a British Expatriate in Finland ever since

Here are a few of the topics that I explore on this Website.

This site,it`s content and myself are a work in progress. My views on things and the subjects that this Blog covers, will no-doubt change as I gain a deeper understanding of Finland and the Finnish People. What I am sharing on these pages are personal views and points that I have observed so far, from becoming a British Expatriate and settling down here in Finland.I hope you can have some use for it too.

Who am I?

Greg, the expat who found his home

Well,my name is Gregory Barr and I am a 45 year old man born in Birmingham,England.I was fortunate enough to be born in to a Royal Naval family. This in turn offered me the opportunity to enroll at The Royal Hospital School,Holbook,UK.This is a public boarding school,of which I attended 5 years. This was to set the stage for my travelling for the next 10 years. In 1988 I met a Finnish lady in London, and with in 4 months we were married and I moved abroad to Helsinki,Finland.

I  have been a British Expatriate ever since.I devour good literature, listen to others point of view and enjoy meeting people with differing cultures, religions and colour.

“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page.” – St. Augustine

I am not an expert,I am merely a man who has chosen his own path. For me it has worked out.The things I write may not suite every one. However they have given me much enjoyment and have had a positive effect on my life.In Hindsight,I have achieved more when my back is against the wall.

If you have any questions or comments you can use the Contact form

There are many links in the posts themselves for those who wish to know more about a particular subject. There is also a links page, which offers some of my favourite sites and site offering support and assistance to travelers to Finland.I hope you will find something of interest to you on this Blog

I am pleased you find some information that is helpful. All the recent posts about blindness and MS are relatively new to myself,so I am living one day at a time.It goes to show that whilst you are fit and energetic,do the things you want and dream of,NOW.Because tomorrow no one knows what the situation will turn in to

a rhetorical question isnts a question with no answer, its a question you ask which you either dont want or dont expect an answer to. How old are you before you are said to have died of old age?
